Verona Beach Lighthouse, Verona Beach, NY

I shot this several days ago while we were visiting family in Upstate New York. ┬áIt’s just a short drive from Sylvan Beach–I have fond memories of going to the amusement park at Sylvan Beach as a kid growing up in Central New York. Both beaches are on Lake Oneida–the biggest lake entirely within New York State.

The lighthouse was built in 1915 and is either 75 or 85 feet tall depending on which source you check. It was one of three lights put up to warn passing Eire Canal traffic of shallow water. Not many people outside of New York State know the Erie Canal passed across Lake Oneida.
