Street Musician

This gentleman was “busking” on the Charlottesville (pedestrian) Downtown Mall last summer. I don’t remember seeing him before the day this was shot or since. I do remember he was playing music from “my era”–the sixties and seventies and was pretty good. He did a lot of Beatles and Paul Simon.

I asked him why he was performing music that was popular before he was born. He replied while he liked a lot of contemporary stuff, the music from that period was so incredibly creative and ground-breaking he loved it. He said almost every group and artist since then owes an extraordinary artistic debt to the major artists of that era and especially to the Beatles and Simon. The creative fervor of that period in popular American music was nothing short of unprecedented and he expressed the belief there would never be anything like it again.
