This beautiful little guy’s name is Jonah (you probably figured that out already). I encountered him yesterday (Sunday) afternoon while on an assignment for the paper I shoot for.

A very small town in this county (Fluvanna County) named Columbia is sorely in need of renovation—maybe urban renewal is the right term. My paper (The Fluvanna review) is doing a story on this tattered little community. Located at the confluence of the James and Rivanna Rivers, the population of Columbia was 49 at the 2000 census, making it Virginia’s smallest incorporated town. It was the site of a minor battle during the Revolutionary War, historical reenactments of which are held annually.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²), of which, 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it is land and 4.76% is water. The per capita income for the town was $13,632. None of the population or families are (per Census Bureau info.) below the poverty line.

While being guided around town by the mayor’s wife we ran into Jonah’s grandmother who had him out for a ride in his stroller and I shot this picture.

Some may think  I over-manipulated this image to get this startling effect. I did not. This little boy really does have eyes this arresting. All I did was convert to monochrome and bring up the contrast a bit.
