“Alright Mr. Holen–I’m ready for my close-up.”

Here’s another from the Jessica and the Zombie 5K series. In a recent email Jessica told me this was one of her favorites. It’s just one more example of how versatile a model this young lady is—there’s almost no way to take a bad picture of her and the variations and possibilities are endless.

As those of you who have been following this series know—I have photographed Jessica in a variety of ways—wide, medium and (here) close-up and she looks wonderful no matter how she is posed. This particular shot I guess, would be considered half-way between a close-up (CU) and an extreme close-up (XCU).

You old-timers and film history buffs will no doubt remember the most famous line in American film that mentions a close up.

In the 1950 film “Sunset Boulevard” faded silent film star Norma Desmond begs her much younger lover—unsuccessful film writer Joe Gillis—played by William Holden—not to leave her. When Gillis packs and attempts to leave she shoots him. As the police arrive to take her away she becomes lost in her fantasy world (in current psychological parlance—a dissociative episode). As she descends a grand staircase to the waiting police, she makes a brief speech—believing she is on a movie set being filmed. Her final line and the last line in the movie is, “All right, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my close-up.”

Here are the comments from various international photographers on yesterday’s image, “Jessica as Amelia”:
